Things to do in California

Things to do in California

California has a rich history, and many cultures exist within the one state.

  • In San Francisco, you’ll find one of America’s largest Chinatowns. Walk through the main strip and choose one of the many great restaurants or walk the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Los Angeles, a sprawling city made up of no less than 88 overlapping towns, is packed with different cultures. Spend time in Little Korea, Little Armenia, and Little Ethiopia, to name just a few. Visit the niche museums that recount the history of the many groups of people that made Los Angeles what it is today.
  • A visit to Sacramento will help you on your journey to learn more about California’s past. There, you’ll find museums centered around the Capitol, local Native Americans, and the history of the railroad.
  • Once you’ve soaked up some culture, why not head to Hollywood and learn how your favorite movies were made? Or head north to Napa where you can sample the state’s finest wines.
Beaches in California

Beaches in California

Spread down the west coast of America, an all-time favorite thing to do is to top up your suntan on one of the state’s glorious beaches. Whether you enjoy quiet sunbathing, working out, or watersports, there are plenty of options to choose from.

If you’d like warmth, head to Los Angeles and San Diego, or somewhere in between. These places are particularly hot in the summer months, but are pleasant all year round. Perhaps you’d even enjoy working out among the body builders on LA’s Venice Beach, or riding a rollercoaster in between tanning sessions on Santa Monica pier.

While San Francisco beaches can be a little chilly, they make up for it in beauty. Locals rarely talk about the beaches, but they’re still worth visiting. Baker Beach is a particular gem, complete with picnic areas and grills so you can make a day of it.

If you’d like to visit somewhere more tranquil, Santa Barbara has some sheltered, serene beaches. However, there are great beaches all the way up the Pacific coast. Whichever spot you choose, you won’t be disappointed.
